“I strongly recommend Reuben Staines as a guitar teacher from the beginner guitarist discovering music, to a seasoned gigging musician in need of developing their guitar chops.

I am an empty nester who always loved guitars and decided some time ago to do something about learning to play one. I come from a musical family, played violin to youth orchestra level and grade 6 theory … a long time ago, and sadly have nearly forgotten it all! I also sang in several rock bands in my late teens to early twenty’s.

I went on the search for a guitar teacher that I was comfortable with, related to easily, who understood what I wanted to play and learn, and inspired me by the level of the teachers playing expertise. Reuben was guitar teacher number 4! I have been tutored by Reuben for a bit over 3 years now.

My learning experience with Reuben has met all my expectations, limited only by the amount of time I put into practicing and playing. He finds a balance between guiding me through a song list, new songs and riffs and licks to learn, mixed in with theory to practically show how what I play all relates.

I have had the opportunity to listen in on Reuben as he carries out his lessons with other students while I wait to commence my lesson. He listens well, not just to the music but to the student and their needs. He positively encourages his students and communicates on an appropriate level to all.

He’s had kids starting at 5 years of age, the teen prodigies (including one that has played several times with Bruce Springsteen when on tour!) and the more mature folks like me, covering all genre of music as well as acoustic and electric guitars.
